Twitter Tuesday # 3

This past week has been super busy. I’ve been back to work for the first time since my surgery and E had her big 2nd birthday party celebration. That being said I haven’t been able to tweet a whole lot, therefore, twitter Tuesday is a bit light.

I have been spending some time late at night on twitter and came across some blog posts I would love to share with you all. For one reason or another these posts all caught my attention. I’ll include a brief description but strongly recommend visiting yourself, they are all quick reads.

1. Mommies don’t get sick days: Mommies are their best when they have to take care of little ones at home. When its mommy who’s sick, there is no rest for the weary.

2. Martin Luther King Day: This post is in celebration of MLK day. I never really thought about how you can “celebrate” the day but this post gives a bunch of great ideas. It suggests many “random acts of kindness” that MLK would most certainly look down and smile upon.

3. Advocating for your child’s Education: This is a wonderful post written by a former teacher. She shares with us her thoughts on what to do if your child has a “bad” teacher. It’s great advice and I thought it was worth sharing. If one person learns anything from her post I think it’s worth its weight in gold.

4. The perks of not having boobs: This post hits home with me since i don’t have boobs either, we’ll not with any milk in them anyway. If I keep eating Mighty Taco and chicken finger subs I might have a significant pair soon.

5. Men in the baby food department: This post is pretty much just a picture but it couldn’t be more true. This blogger is pretty damn funny so give the rest of his site out once you see this post.

Look whooo’s two

So today was my little darling E’s Look Whooo’s 2 birthday party. It’s amazing to think that she is two now. I know I already wrote a birthday post, but she had such an wonderful time today at her actual party, that I felt it really warranted another post.

E has been looking forward to this party for a couple of weeks. We did cake on her actual birthday and I used the Ipad to record us singing happy birthday to her. I am not lying when I tell you that she has played that video at least 50 times because she loves hearing us sing it over and over. She has been as excited as can be looking forward to her family party. She has been obsessed with a Dora book about a surprise party and I think that is her frame of reference for a birthday party – hats, balloons, cake, ice cream, pinata…

We arrived early to the place where we were having the party, a community room in the building where my sister in law Kathy works. It had a beautiful view of the Niagara river, it was free and big enough to accommodate all of the family, so it worked for us.

We prepared the room with decorations and laid out the food. The favors were mini-cupcakes from Fairy Cakes Cupcakery  which were outrageously amazing. E was wearing some comfy clothes and a tutu so we had to change her into her “birthday outfit”. Otherwise she would have kinda looked like a goofball if you ask me, but as I said to Em, she would’ve had a blast no matter what she was wearing.

Once the guests started to arrive, E came alive with excitement and she was anxious to play with all of her cousins. She was also eager to show off her new Rody Horse. So eager in fact that she fell off it and split her lip open not once, but twice. She must have had some serious adrenaline pumping because despite the blood, there was not so much as a tear. She was ready to get right back up on that horse, (pun intended). She already loves that Rody and so did all the all her cousins, it looks like its going to be a big hit.

Trust me, I'm happier than I look.

Presents and cake, then more playing, she just had a ball. She received some special gifts including big girl owl bedding, an Elephant Snow globe, money for her college fund, books, blocks,a crystal owl, a constellation turtle, Dora stuff, clothes, gift cards and more. We couldn’t ask for anything more really, it was non-stop laughter and smiles for our girl today. Today was one of those days I described in my very first post. I don’t ever want to forget…the laughing, the playing, the smiling, the singing, the fat lips, I don’t want to forget any of it. If you’ve ever looked at your child and had an overwhelming feeling of pride even though all they did was smile, you know how I felt today.

We cleaned and packed up everything, barely fitting it all in the truck. We were all exhausted and I was very sore by the time we got home, but it was all worth it. This post is my “Mission Accomplished” banner, we met expectations of our 2 year old’s birthday dream:The expectations set by Dora’s birthday books and Barney shows were exceeded by the real life party hats, cake and ice cream.

I wasn’t going to write this post tonight because I was so exhausted, but I wanted to make sure it was fresh in my mind. I do have one huge regret today. I was so busy trying to enjoy and capture the moments today that I didn’t get a single picture of me and my birthday girl. It’s very disappointing but now at least I have these written words and photos as a reminder of a wonderful day. Happy Birthday Eliza Caroline, I hope you enjoyed your celebration, Daddy loves you!
